Forge FC have brought back former Toronto FC forward Mo Babouli ahead of the 2025 season.
Reports from SportsNet indicate that the 32-year-old returns to Hamilton after a stellar three-year run with local rivals York United FC.
Babouli is no stranger to Forge fans, having played for the team in 2020 and 2021.
During his first stint, he tallied 12 goals and six assists in 43 appearances, played a crucial role in their 2020 CPL championship win, and shone in the 2021 CONCACAF League, helping Forge secure a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Forge FC head coach Bobby Smyrniotis expressed his excitement about Babouli’s return. “We’re thrilled to welcome Mo back,” Smyrniotis said. “He’s a fantastic player who knows what it takes to succeed at Forge, and we’re confident he’ll make a big impact again.”

Babouli’s rise at York United FC
Babouli leaves York United as one of their standout performers. Over 53 appearances, he scored 19 goals and provided six assists, making him the club’s joint all-time leading scorer alongside Osaze De Rosario.
Babouli also captained York during their best-ever league finish and guided them to their first playoff victory last season.
Despite his success at York, Babouli’s familiarity with Forge’s style of play and his proven record at the club make this move a natural fit for the 2025 season.
Strengthening Forge FC’s squad
Babouli is the second major signing Forge has made from York United this offseason.
Earlier, they secured Brian Wright, York’s top scorer and CPL Players’ Player of the Year in 2024.
These moves strengthen Forge’s squad as they prepare for their biggest test: a 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup clash against Liga MX giants CF Monterrey in February.
Forge has also bolstered their defense by adding Halifax Wanderers standout Dan Nimick, known for his penalty-taking expertise.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains about the future of star winger Béni Badibanga.
Rivalry heats up in the 905
Babouli’s move back to Forge adds an extra layer of intensity to the 905 derby.
Known for scoring in matches between Forge and York, Babouli’s return ensures the rivalry will be even more exciting in 2025.
