Toronto FC has locked in promising 24-year-old Canadian goalkeeper Luka Gavran with a contract extension through 2027, including an option for 2028.
The boy from Hamilton has been doing well in the TFC goal and beyond since he realized his breakthrough in August 2023.
One of Gavran’s most iconic accomplishments was becoming the first TFC goalie to save a penalty in his first game.
Fresh off a clean sheet in the 2024 home opener against Charlotte FC, Gavran continues to build on his impressive tally of four shutouts in 17 appearances across all competitions.
“We are very happy to secure Luka’s contract extension,” Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez told CP24. He emphasized the club’s commitment to developing young Canadian talent, expressing hopes for Gavran’s future in international football.
The goalkeeper’s journey to Toronto FC began when he was selected 31st overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft from St. John’s University. His collegiate career showcased his potential, leading the NCAA in shutouts and save percentage.
Before stepping into the spotlight as Sean Johnson’s backup, Gavran honed his skills with TFC II, making 38 appearances over two seasons.
His collegiate accolades include the Big East Goalkeeper of the Year award and the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team selection.

Currently, Gavran is fine-tuning his skills alongside veteran keeper Sean Johnson and teammate Shafique Wilson during the club’s pre-season training camp in Marbella, Spain.
The contract extension demonstrates Toronto FC’s faith in their homegrown talent, securing a promising future for the club and the young Canadian shot-stopper.
