The new season is here, and the captain has shared what could shape the Loons’ 2025 season.

Speaking to the media, Trapp reflected on last season’s lessons and what the team needs to be successful this season.

Minnesota United FC finished the season strong, securing 6th in the Western Conference and 11th overall.

Their performance earned them a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs, which demonstrated that the team has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

However, inconsistency witnessed in the regular season prevented them from having a deeper run.

Building on last season’s progress

Now, with the new season, Trapp has laid the blueprint for maintaining high standards and avoiding last season’s setbacks.

I think the consistency of the effort, the standards we know what we are, and we can build on that, and I think that’s a really good step forward for us, and now it’s just about putting together performances week after week that give us points away from home and at home.”

Trapp also demonstrated the glaring difference between this season and last season.

It’s hard to compare the two… last year, there were so many question marks, uncertainties, etc. This is completely different. We know what we are like I said, and we know what we want to achieve, and now we get to actually go do that.”

In addition to embracing a strong mentality, he also made it clear that the team is aiming higher in 2025.

We want to be a team that pushes to the maximum of our possibility and capability, and I think for us, that’s looking at making the playoffs. It’s looking at winning as many games at home as we possibly can, whereas last year, we didn’t do that particularly well. We want to win a trophy. And rather that’s Leagues Cup, Open Cup, or MLS Cup, these are situations where there’s always an opportunity for us to grab hold of something, and I think that’s the way our mentality of this group has been.”

Part of the success surely is attributed to the manager, who has also been speaking about what he likes about the squad.

Since assuming office, he has brought tactical direction and identity to the team, helping the boys develop a more cohesive and dynamic style of play.

His leadership hasn’t gone under the radar, with most of the players, including those now trapped, crediting him with giving the team a new sense of purpose and direction.

The Loons are surely entering the new season with confidence, considering the solid foundation they are enjoying.
