New York City FC (NYCFC) looks set to name Pascal Jansen as their new manager, with the Dutch coach expected to arrive in time for the 2025 preseason.

This is according to GIVEMESPORT, which reports that the former Ferencváros boss will succeed Nick Cushing, who parted ways with the club last fall.

Jansen, 51, recently left his role in Hungary under intriguing circumstances. Ferencváros announced on December 31 that his contract was bought out by “one of the world’s leading football clubs.”

While NYCFC fans might question the hyperbole, the excitement around Jansen is undeniable.

His resume includes a stint as manager of AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, where he developed a reputation for tactical discipline and grooming young talent.

Before that, he was an assistant coach at PSV Eindhoven and worked under Liverpool’s current boss, Arne Slot, at AZ.

A fresh direction

NYCFC finished sixth in the Eastern Conference last season—decent but not up to expectations.

The team has struggled to fully integrate its young stars, with names like Talles Magno, Jovan Mijatovic, and Agustin Ojeda failing to live up to their potential. Jansen’s appointment could be the turning point.

Known for his focus on youth development, Jansen’s preferred 4-3-3 formation aligns with NYCFC’s vision. Fans will be eager to see if his European pedigree translates to success in Major League Soccer.

Building for the future

With preseason camp starting in a week, Jansen inherits a roster in flux. Key players like Santi Rodriguez and Thiago Martins remain, but the club recently loaned James Sands to FC St. Pauli, leaving gaps to fill.

Reinforcements are expected in the coming months as the team prepares for what promises to be an exciting campaign.

While the official unveiling is still pending, NYCFC supporters are hopeful that Jansen’s tactical expertise and focus on young talent will reignite the team’s ambitions in MLS.
