New England Revolution’s talented winger Esmir Bajraktarević has secured a dream move to Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven.

The transfer, announced Thursday on the club’s X page, could reach up to $6 million, marking another successful export from the Revolution’s youth system.

The 19-year-old rising star, who caught everyone’s attention with his impressive performances in Major League Soccer, leaves New England after making his mark with 5 goals and 4 assists in 57 games.

His excellent development earned him a spot among MLS’s brightest prospects, ranking 10th in this year’s 22 Under 22 list.

“We couldn’t be happier for Esmir,” said sporting director Curt Onalfo, speaking proudly about the transfer. “The Dutch league is perfect for young players to grow, and we’re confident this move will take his career to new heights.”

Bajraktarević’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. After initially playing for the United States national team and making his debut in January 2024, he made a bold decision to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In his first game for Bosnia, he immediately showed his class by setting up a goal for legendary striker Edin Dzeko.

At PSV, Bajraktarević won’t be the only MLS connection. He’ll join former FC Dallas striker Ricardo Pepi, who’s currently leading the scoring charts for the Dutch champions.

The club’s sporting director, Earnie Stewart, also has strong MLS ties from his time with Philadelphia Union.

The Revolution have been quite successful in sending players to top European clubs lately. Goalkeepers Djordje Petrovic and Matt Turner made moves to Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal, while forwards Tajon Buchanan and Adam Buksa found success with Club Brugge and Lens, respectively.

Head coach Caleb Porter shared his thoughts on losing his young star: “Esmir’s talent was bound to attract European interest. While we’ll miss him, this move benefits everyone involved. His future looks incredibly bright.”

Life without Bajraktarević

The Revolution are already planning for life without Bajraktarević. They’ve brought in striker Leo Campana from Inter Miami and midfielder Jackson Yueill through free agency.

The club has also strengthened its defense with Mamadou Fofana from France’s Amiens SC and Brayan Ceballos from the Brazilian side of Fortaleza.

These reinforcements come at a crucial time for New England, who struggled last season with a 14th-place finish in the Eastern Conference and scored the fewest goals in the league.
