Miguel Almirón is now an Atlanta United player after six years with Newcastle United.
The Paraguayan maestro, who was pivotal in Atlanta’s 2018 MLS Cup victory, was welcomed by fans on his arrival.
Almirón first signed for Atlanta United in 2017 as a designated player. His efforts helped the team win its first MLS Cup title.
In 2019, he joined Newcastle United for a then-record transfer fee of $26 million. During his time in the Premier League, he played 1866 games, found the back of the net 23 times, and assisted 8 times.
Now, due to a lack of game time in the 2024-25 season, Almirón opted to return to Atlanta United.
Atlanta United Sporting Director Chris Henderson detailed that Almirón’s experience and skill were necessary for the club.

Almiron’s message
At his first press conference since rejoining the club, Almirón thanked the fans for their support. “What I missed most was the affection of the fans,” he said. “The support from the beginning has always been there.”
Almirón also spoke about how he has developed overall as a player. “I think I’ve grown on and off the field. You always learn from your experiences,” he said. “Now, I’m coming back with the motivation to help the team.”
Atlanta United are getting ready for the new MLS season with Almirón as a core part of the team.
“I’m still the same Miguel – the same will to compete, the same will to win. But now, I have to work twice as hard to repay the confidence the team and the fans have in me.”
