Lionel Messi’s future is already sparking conversations as his Inter Miami contract approaches its end.
The Argentine star, who joined David Beckham’s franchise in 2023, has elevated soccer in the United States to new heights. Reports suggest Messi is preparing to return to a place he once called home.
Rumors about his future have been swirling, with many hoping he’ll stay in Miami until 2026. The club is even set to move into the new Miami Freedom Park next year, and having Messi as part of that moment would be massive. However, it seems Messi may have different plans.
According to Yanina Latorre, a close friend of the Messi family, the football legend is considering returning to Barcelona.
She told La Nacion via Daily Record, “He told me that when he finishes here in Miami, where he is happy, he will return to Barcelona.”
This makes sense when you think about Messi’s history. He spent over two decades at Barcelona, scoring 672 goals in 778 games. For him, it’s more than just a club—it’s home.
When asked if he’d stay longer in Miami, Messi reportedly said, “No, my place is there.”

Now, the idea of him leaving might sting for Inter Miami fans. After all, Messi has completely transformed the MLS since arriving. The club’s leadership would love for him to stick around, especially as they prepare for the big stadium move.
Perhaps things could still change. Messi seems happy in Miami, but his heart might pull him back to Spain.
For now, it remains to be seen whether the pull of home will win out or if he’ll choose to stay.
