Austin FC has made a significant move by signing Albanian international Myrto Uzuni from Spanish second-division side Granada CF.
Austin FC has officially announced the signing of 29-year-old striker Myrto Uzuni for a record-breaking $12.3 million transfer fee, setting a new benchmark for the Verde & Black.
Uzuni’s contract extends through 2027, with an option for 2028.
Uzuni will take up one of Austin’s Designated Player spots alongside USMNT striker Brandon Vazquez and Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari.
Both players were key acquisitions, with Vazquez arriving earlier this month for a reported $10 million fee and Bukari joining last summer for $7 million.
“Myrto has shown himself to be a prolific goalscorer in every team and league where he has previously played,” said Austin FC sporting director Rodolfo Borrell. “His work rate, finishing ability, and versatility will be big assets. We’re very excited to have him join.”

A proven goalscorer
Uzuni leaves Granada as the club’s all-time leading scorer, netting 49 goals in 106 appearances. This season alone, he tallied 14 goals in 18 La Liga 2 matches.
Over his career, Uzuni has amassed 126 goals and 42 assists in 322 club games across Albania, Croatia, Hungary, and Spain. On the international stage, he has scored five goals in 38 appearances for Albania.
Uzuni is eager to make an impact in Major League Soccer, sharing his excitement about Austin FC’s ambitions. “One of the main reasons I want to join Austin FC is the ambition that Anthony Precourt and Rodolfo Borrell have for this team, which matches my own ambition,” said Uzuni. “I’m coming here to break records.”
With this signing, Austin FC’s revamped attack under new head coach Nico Estévez is definitely shaping up to be a serious contender this season.
