The Premier League is back, and Arsenal are gearing up for their season opener against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal fans are hopeful that this will be the season their team finally overcomes Manchester City to claim the title.

Arsenal is considered the team most likely to dethrone City based on their performances over the past two seasons. However, they have finished second twice in a row, falling just short each time.

Arsenal enjoyed a record-breaking 2023/24 campaign, winning more games than ever before. Despite this, they were still unable to surpass Manchester City, who claimed the title once again.

The previous season was largely defined by Arsenal’s consistency and limited injuries, which allowed them to maintain a high level of performance throughout.

What Arteta said

Now, as the new season begins, expectations are higher than ever. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was asked in his pre-match press conference how his team plans to beat their rivals to the title.

His response was straightforward and focused on improvement: “Break more of those records again, earn more points, for sure.”

Arteta knows that the bar has been set incredibly high. “It (89 points) won’t be enough,” he admitted. “With the level we are competing with and every season getting harder, we are going to have to improve again.”

The Arsenal boss is clear about the challenge ahead, emphasizing the need for near-perfection. “I don’t know what perfect is, but it has to be very close to the numbers that we’ve seen in recent years,” Arteta explained.

Encouragingly, the drive to succeed is coming from within the squad. Arteta revealed that during a recent team gathering, the players expressed their determination to go one better this season. “They are the ones driving that ambition, so that’s always positive,” he said.

The journey ahead is akin to climbing the highest mountain, according to Arteta. The path to Premier League glory is steep and difficult, but the team is united in their goal. “We’re certainly going to try,” Arteta concluded, signaling Arsenal’s intent to push themselves even further this season.

If Arsenal can maintain their momentum and continue breaking records, they may finally overcome Manchester City and bring the Premier League trophy back to North London.
