Arsenal is grappling with injury concerns that could impact their early momentum just days before the start of the new season.
Mikel Arteta’s squad, which has shown promise in pre-season, now faces challenges with some squad players sidelined.
Dutch defender Jurrien Timber, a promising new signing whose last season was marred by injury, is again on the sidelines.
His absence from Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Lyon in the Emirates Cup raised concerns, especially as he deals with a foot injury.
However, there is cautious optimism within the club. Arteta told Metro that Timber is expected to return to training soon, which could see him rejoin the squad in time for the opening fixtures.
‘It is fine. He has been doing some individual work. We expect him to be ready to train with the group next week.’
Takehiro Tomiyasu is facing a longer recovery period. The Japanese international sustained a knee injury during pre-season preparations.
His injury ruled him out of the pre-season tour in the USA and will keep him out of action for several weeks. Arteta has urged patience as Tomiyasu works his way back to full fitness.
‘It will take weeks on that one, unfortunately. He is going to have to be patient.’

On the positive side, Fabio Vieira’s situation seems less severe. The Portuguese midfielder, who has been dealing with a minor knock, is expected to be fit for Arsenal’s opening game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
His availability could provide a much-needed boost to Arsenal’s midfield options.
Our injury woes are concerning, but the team’s depth should help manage any challenges as we aim to start the season strongly.
