In a significant move to bolster their attacking options, Arsenal are reportedly closing in on signing Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

With Eddie Nketiah’s departure imminent, the iconic number 14 shirt, once worn by Thierry Henry, could be available for Gyokeres according to Football.London.

Gyokeres, 26, has been in scintillating form, netting an impressive 43 goals in 50 appearances for Sporting last season.

His prolific scoring record has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.

Arsenal are prepared to meet Sporting’s hefty price tag, with a deal expected to be in the region of £80 million to £90 million.

The Gunners’ interest in Gyokeres is driven by their need for a reliable goal scorer to complement Gabriel Jesus.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add depth and versatility to his attacking lineup, and Gyokeres’ ability to play both as a central striker and on the wings makes him an ideal candidate.

His physical presence, combined with his clinical finishing, would provide Arsenal with a new dimension in their attack.

Gyokeres has worn the number 9 shirt for Sporting but has often donned the number 17 for Sweden.

With Cedric Soares’ departure, the number 17 shirt is available at Arsenal, offering Gyokeres a familiar option.

However, the number 14 shirt, synonymous with Arsenal legends, could be a tempting choice for the Swedish star.

As Arsenal continue their summer transfer activities, securing Gyokeres would be a statement of intent, signaling their ambition to challenge for top honors in the upcoming season.
